Electronic-Grade Ethylene Carbonate (EC) Purification Project Case

Case Introduction

In June 2024, Shenghua New Energy’s “220,000 tons Lithium Battery Materials Production–R&D Integrated Project” located in the Wuhan Chemical Industry Park achieved a successful first-time start-up. The project smoothly produced ultra-high-quality electrolyte solvent products, including ethylene carbonate (EC). The purification unit provided by DODGEN has been operating stably, helping the product purity reach an internationally leading level, with excellent performance across all key technical indicators.

Industry Demand and Pain Points:The new energy lithium-battery industry requires extremely high electronic-grade purity for electrolyte solvents (such as ethylene carbonate, EC). Conventional distillation-based separation processes often face drawbacks when producing high-purity chemicals, including high reflux ratios, massive energy consumption, and difficulty in completely removing trace impurities. As a result, production costs are high and product quality can be unstable.

The scope of service covered end-to-end delivery—from the handover of a scientifically designed process solution, to schedule-driven manufacturing execution, as well as start-up guidance and commissioning support after delivery—demonstrating strong full-process delivery capabilities.

Energy Saving and Consumption Reduction
Compared with conventional processes (light-ends removal column + refining column system),
steam consumption drops sharply from 1.3 t/t product to approximately 0.3 t/t product,
achieving a 70% reduction in energy consumption.

Economic Benefits
Compared with conventional processes (light-ends removal column + refining column system),
the equipment footprint can be reduced by 30%. Through energy savings and product quality premium,
the annual operating cost is expected to be reduced by nearly RMB 10 million for the customer.

DODGEN’s process package supports single-line capacities of 1,000–50,000 t/a.
