On September 23, Daqing Petrochemical’s 30,000 tonnes-per-year polyolefin elastomer (POE) industrial demonstration unit completed its full process flow and achieved a successful startup on the first attempt. On September 26, the first products were confirmed to meet quality specifications. The unit is the first industrial implementation of a complete solution-polymerization POE process developed independently by PetroChina — a milestone in the industrialization of high-end polyolefins.
POE is widely used in high-end manufacturing, polymer modification, healthcare, and other demanding applications. The project forms part of PetroChina’s new materials initiative and marks a landmark in Daqing Petrochemical’s industrial upgrading toward an integrated refining-to-materials structure.
For the unit’s devolatilization section, DODGEN engineered and supplied its proprietary core equipment, contributing to the successful first-attempt startup.

Deep removal of residual monomers and solvents from high-viscosity polymer systems is one of the decisive steps in commercializing solution-polymerization POE, and it places exceptional demands on mass-transfer efficiency and long-term operational stability. DODGEN has specialized in polymer devolatilization for many years and has developed proprietary technologies such as falling-strand devolatilization, translating process requirements into reliable industrial equipment. DODGEN systems are operating in multiple POE pilot and industrial plants, reducing residual monomers and solvents to the ppm levels specified by customers.
As one of the contractors on this project, DODGEN is proud to have contributed to this landmark achievement. Going forward, DODGEN will continue to support the scale-up of innovative processes into continuous, stable, and replicable industrial production — with dependable equipment and professional services.
